There are multiple ways you can get involved.  By offering your own support and love, you can directly impact the lives of these kids for the better.  Here’s how:

Financial Support
Whether you live down the road or across the country, you can sponsor a child financially by ensuring that he or she has the material items that help make for a happy, memorable childhood.  While basic necessities will be provided for by state and private funding, your financial contributions will go toward making life not only “normal,” but nurturing and memorable for each child.  Here are just a few examples of the seemingly simple items foster children often go without, and which you can help provide:

  • A birthday present this year
  • New clothes for school
  • A camera to document memories
  • Art supplies or journals to explore creativity
  • Athletic Gear
  • We welcome your suggestions!

Emotional Support
As an individual or together with your family, you can choose to emotionally sponsor a child by helping to create happy memories that will last a lifetime.  Children that come to The Homestead at Alder Cove will often have missed out on important life experiences that create happy childhoods.  Here are just a few of the ways you can take an active role in creating happy memories that will make a world of difference in the life of a child:

  • Take a child back to school shopping
  • Celebrate the Holidays with a child
  • Help a child with homework or college applications
  • Teach a child a new skill, sport, or hobby

We note that a thorough background check will be required prior to taking a child for the day.  If there is a desire to have the child stay with a family overnight it will be required to complete the process of becoming a licensed foster parent.
